Sustainability & The Chesapeake Bay Program

Chesapeake Bay

Chesapeake Bay

Sustainability: Of, relating to, or being a method of harvesting or using a resource so that the resource is not depleted or permanently damaged. Merriam Webster

Sustainability is the goal of every eco-conscious company, product, or person. It’s really the act of making as little impact as possible in addition to maintaining supply. This applies to architecture, products, food sources, nature, and more. One example of a program dedicated to helping nature become more sustainable is the Chesapeake Bay Program. This partnership between Delaware, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia assists in the restitution of the Chesapeake Bay and it’s watershed. They focus on restoring water quality, habitat, protecting watersheds, managing fisheries, and more.

Given that the Chesapeake Bay is the largest estuary in the U.S., it is truly imperitive to protect the delicate life systems within it. Volunteers and stewardship provide this honorable mission with support, however, each of us can help to make the bodies of water on Earth more sustainable…it doesn’t matter where you are. Because of the work this partnership provides, the bay is thriving with new life.
