Twenty five percent of what goes into a landfill are kitchen scraps that could have been recycled.
How do I make my own compost?
Keep a bin or large trashcan outside in a location that is away from your house. Put a small layer of soil in the bottom of it. As you add your kitchen compost, sprinkle with water and then cover with a thin layer of dirt and it will keep the smell away. Aerate at least once per week by turning the contents of your outside bin. This will add oxygen to the mix which will help your compost break down quicker. If it smells, that usually means it is too wet; just add dry soil to your outside bin.
