cfl A Bright Idea: CFLs

CFL

We all use lamps for both functionality, and to add ambiance to even the barest of rooms. As our incandescent light bulbs burn out we are faced with a question, do we replace them with compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs)? For most of us, this decision is a no-brainer…of course we replace them with Energy Star certified CFLs.

These efficient bulbs differ from regular incandescent bulbs in that an electric current is directed through a tube containing argon and mercury. CFLs do take longer to reach full capacity, however, once the bulb has been on for a few moments it uses 75% less energy, hence, lasting about 10 times longer than regular bulbs.

CFLs will certainly pay for themselves, and waste less energy. So as your bulbs burn out, invest in this greener option…we promise you won’t regret it when you get your energy bill!

    Dear Her Guide to Green,

I have used these lightbulbs and expected a change in the quality of light in my house. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. They work just fine and offer basically the same lighting as I had before.

Thank you for your contribution to a green planet, the more people that join the cause, the sooner we have a healthy planet.
