Make Cents: Bring Your Own Grocery Bags

LittleThunder green 205x300 Make Cents: Bring Your Own Grocery BagsQuite a bit of time ago, I bought a plethora of reusable bags from my local grocery store. I put them in my car so that I always have them with me, and can never forget them. Each week when I take a trip to the market I carry my bags in tow, happy to be doing my part in eliminating single use plastic bags. But the best feeling is not just the green ping in my heart, it’s the money they give back to me when I check out!

Most grocery stores offer money back for utilizing reusable bags. So not only are you making a greener effort in ridding our world of unnecessary plastic bags, but you are saving money as well. In just a short time the reusable bags will pay for themselves, and you will be pocketing the rest. Cha-ching!

About a year ago I decided it was more than time to start using reusable bags on a regular basis. I found the site: www. reusablebags.com. I am very pleased with the Acme workhorse bags I purchased through it. They are “rip-stop” nylon and store in a little pouch (which is amazingly easy to “fold into”) and now I always carry at least one with me in my purse. They hold 30 pounds and clean easily. Check out the site! They have lots of choices.

If you’re interested in going farther than reusable bags at the till, I encourage you to check out Moukisac… a company that makes mesh and nylon bags to replace clear plastic bags used for produce and bulk foods. They work great, are washable and reusable, and have many, many uses. The website is http://www.moukisac.com.
